Mocha vs Latte

Now:

A perfectly brewed cup of espresso hits differently.

However, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Luckily, there are many espresso milk combo drinks, when you want something sweet and mild.

However, espresso milk combo drinks are too many and the differences are very subtle.

This post compares one of the world’s most popular espresso drinks, the latte, and the sweetest espresso drink, the mocha.

Without further ado, let’s start with the milkiest espresso-based drink, the latte.

What is a latte

Now:

Caffè latte or simply latte is one of the two most ordered coffee drinks in the US and the UK. This drink originated from Italy back in the 17th century and is made with espresso and steamed milk

Compared with the other espresso-based drinks, the latte is prepared with the most milk.

Latte is commonly served in an 8 oz to 15 oz latte glass or cup.

How to make caffe latte

The standard recipe for a latte is 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed milk, and a thin layer of microfoam.

Start by brewing one or two shots of espresso using freshly ground coffee. The next thing is to steam 8 to 15 ounces of whole milk.

Finally, pour the espresso into a latte glass and add the milk.

The thin microfoam on top lets baristas create elaborate latte arts and also gives the drink a unique flavor and texture

Lattes are normally served with different flavors and toppings that differ from one coffee shop to another.

As you can latte has more milk than espresso, which gives it a milky taste. If you don’t love a strong espresso taste, a latte makes a great alternative.

What is a Mocha

Also known as caffè mocha, mocaccino, mochaccino, and mochachino, mocha is an espresso drink that is quite different from the other espresso-based drinks.

Why? You may ask.

While most espresso drinks are made with espresso and milk, mocha is made with espresso, milk, and chocolate.

And as you know, coffee and chocolate are a match made in heaven.

Who is it for?

Mocha is a perfect drink for coffee lovers who also love chocolate. A cup of mocha supplies a combo of minerals and flavor profiles from espresso and chocolate.

There are two ways of describing mocha.

  • Caffe latte with chocolate
  • Hot chocolate with shots of espresso

Fun Fact.

If you love black coffee and dark chocolate, it’s in your genes.

Mocha is named after Mocha city, one of the ancient coffee marketplaces in Yemen.

Note:

There is a difference between mocha coffee and cafe mocha. This article is about cafe mocha

Mocha coffee refers to coffee beans that come from Yemen and caffè mocha is not necessarily made with mocha coffee beans.

Caffe Mocha Recipe

  • One or two shots of espresso
  • Steam milk
  • Chocolate syrup or chocolate

Caffe mocha is made with one or two shots of espresso, chocolate syrup, and steamed milk added in that order.

Instead of chocolate syrup, some recipes use either dark, white, or milk chocolate. Milk foam is sometimes replaced with whipped cream. Mocha is typically topped with cocoa powder, cinnamon, and sugar for flavors and decoration.
